Breast ReductionView Procedures in 3DBreast ReductionLarge breasts can cause problems in many aspects of a woman's life. When they are larger than the usual standards of attractiveness in our society, the breasts are considered aesthetically displeasing. The weight of large breasts frequently cause discomfort in the shoulders, neck and back and contribute to limited performance in exercise and sports. Also, large breasts can be difficult to assess for lumps or masses, thus making cancer detection much more difficult for you or for your physician.
If the breast is primarily composed of fatty tissue, as it often is in elderly women, it's volume can be adequately reduced by liposculpture. On the other hand, if the breast is more fibrous as it frequently is in young women, it might not be possible to reduce the breast with liposculpture, necessitating the surgical approach.
Goals of Breast Reduction include: Reduce volume
Recontour
Reshape
Techniques:
In the surgical procedure, the nipple-areola complex is repositioned upward, and if indicated, reduced in size. Excess skin and breast tissue is removed from the lower and outer portions of the breast. In the liposculpture procedure, fatty breast tissue is suctioned with tiny straw-like tubes called cannulas. Only microincisions are required with this technique. A preoperative plan is made which allows both the patient and John Porcaro, MD to share in the decision as to the proposed procedure and the desired size of the breasts after the procedure. Dr. John Porcaro will attempt to make the breasts as identical as possible, but some asymmetry may remain. Further more, it is not possible to predict exactly how large the breast will finally be after surgery. Healing results in some progressive change in breast size, since some swelling may be present for several months following the surgery.
