The patient is normally placed under a local anesthetic with sedation. Medications to relieve the pain and discomfort will be prescribed along with an antibiotic to decrease the risk of infection. Most patients are on their feet walking around comfortably just a few days after the procedure and typically return to work within a week.

To facilitate healing, patients need to refrain from sexual intercourse for 6 weeks following vaginoplasty. Any penetration of the vagina must be avoided, including douching, tampon use and tub baths. You will also need to avoid strenuous activities while you heal.

Recovery from vaginal tightening surgery will take about six weeks.
