Dr Porcaro typically performs the procedure under IV sedation, pudendal nerve block and local anesthesia. The procedure is very well tolerated without the risks and additional cost of general anesthesia.

 

Vaginal reconstruction (Vaginoplasty) typically takes about an hour, but may take a little longer if the surgery is performed in conjunction  with another type of genital refinement procedure, such as labiaplasty (surgical reduction of the labia minora) or enhancement or reduction of the labia majora.

 

Vaginoplasty involves re-approximate loose muscles and fascia  in the back of the vagina and at the vaginal opening, thereby tightening the vagina by reducing it's diameter and restoring muscle tone. Once this is complete, the incisions are closed with absorbable sutures, resulting in minimal or no scarring.

 

 After the surgery (Vaginoplasty) swelling will occur which will subside as the area heals. Some pain and discomfort will exist, generally lasting for about a week. Medications to relieve the pain and discomfort will be prescribed along with an antibiotic to decrease the risk of infection.

 

Most patients are on their feet walking around comfortably  a few days after the procedure and typically return to work within a week.
